About the performance
In a place outside the sphere of logic, in the land of dreams and of the unconscious, the cosmic poet meets the gods. From this conversation, which is at the same time an inner quest, he realizes life wisdom and discovers the ecstasy of love.
The narration ritually unfolds through speech, body language and archetypal symbolsm, aiming to lead the audience to the fullness of feeling and to aesthetic enjoyment.
Drawing her ideas and technique from the art of storytellers, Leda Shantala speaks of humankind through ancient texts from 2500 B.C.E., which speak right to the heart, giving a reply to the questions of today. The wisdom of the earth is shown through contemporary theatrical technique which combines the symbolism and the mystery of masks from Sri Lanka and Indonesia with the semantics of Indian classical dance Bharata Natyam which uses the shapes of the dancers body as well as the language of hands forming mudras.
Leda Shantala and her group members stayed in Madras, India, for about two months to prepare the choreography and music of the performance. Indian Bharata Natyam dancer Suresh Shridar was brought to Greece to take part as a special guest of the Leda Shantala Dance Theatre.
